Wooden blinds are a great choice for a lot of windows including living rooms, bedrooms and hallways, also wooden blinds give a great amount of privacy control making them practical while looking modern and stylish. There are some windows that won’t be suited for wooden blinds such as patio doors, we would recommend either a perfect fit blind or a vertical blind for these types of openings. For rooms with a lot of moisture we would recommend a wooden blind alternative in a faux wood blind. Faux wood blinds look the same as real wood but are made from vinyl and PVC making them very durable and ideal for high moisture rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Depending on the size, style, and quality of the blind the price will vary. For a good quality wooden blind, prices for a standard window are around £85, this is for the standard string ladder option. For a blind with a tape ladder option the price will be slightly higher at around £90.
Wooden blinds, also known simply as venetian blinds, feature horizontal wooden or PVC (faux wood blind) slats that are held together by tapes or strings. The strings and tapes can match the colour of the blind or the tapes can be chosen in contrasting colours. Wood blinds generally come in three slat width 50/35/25mm. A pelmet/valance is also supplied to attach to the blinds headrail to give a clean and finished look.
You can only see-through wooden blinds when the slats are in the open horizontal position, but given the way the blind operates and in particular with tape options it is possible to (on larger blinds) see through the slat when you stand up close and look up or down at the slat as there is a couple of mm between each one.
Faux wood blinds are generally heavier than real wood blinds due to the different materials used for the slats. A faux wood blind is made of vinyl/PVC what can be heavy on bigger windows, Real wood blinds are made of basswood which is a lighter material.
The life span of a wooden blind mainly comes down to quality. A good quality wooden blind should last for around 7 to 10 years, of course this depends on how well they’ve been looked after. With regular cleaning and proper use, your new wooden blinds will still look great for years to come.
Like most things in direct sunlight overtime (years) wooden blinds may begin to fade. The degree of fading will come down to the quality of the blind and how much sunlight the blind is exposed to, usually south facing windows will be more affected.
